Shopping:

Santa Rosa Market on the Main Street is a good all round market, the meat I am told is better here than anywhere Guymas. You can get vegetables, meat canned goods, bread, alcohol, toiletries etc

OXXO (3 or 4 of them on the Main St) : The equivalent to a convenience store in the US most necessities can be purchased here.

Fish Markets: Located in San Carlos next to the Santa Rosa Market. The really large Fish market is located in Empalme which is just South of Guymas, (do not buy the shrimp in ready sealed bags from the guys on the highways buy them straight from the cool boxes on the market they are way fresher). The Shrimp and shell fish here are world class.

Vegetable Market: Located Close to San Carlos Rentals near Charlie's Rock

Laundry: I weeks worth of clothing for around $6 the laundry is located next to Piccalo restaurant

Bakery: On the main St. Open around 10am till late, fresh breads available everyday

Large Supermarket: Leys as you enter Guymas on your left hand side.

Fast Food: Burger King, Pizza hut, KFC, Subway all located as you enter Guymas

Town Market: Located behind the main St in Guymas where all the buses stop

Police and Safety;

San Carlos is a very safe town when you compare it to most American cities. You will not find the problems they have in the Border Towns, and large cities and larger resort towns in Mexico. Its economy depends on the tourists and they want to keep it as safe and secure as possible. You will see many local police vehicles in San Carlos, they are there primarily to look after the tourists and they tend to ignore you going a little over the speed limits etc as long as no one is being dangerous, but make sure you are wearing your seat belts.

Municipal Police (Policía Preventa). Local police can stop your car for speeding or other traffic law violations. The office of the Police Chief is marked “Comisario Municipal,” and is located on on Caracol Touristico across the boulevard from the Marina Terra Hotel above the parking lot.
