
Considered one of the most important tourist destinations in Sonora, San Carlos offers visitors the perfect vacation environment. This beach town is 75 miles (120 KM) from Hermosillo and 245 miles (390 KM) from the US border at Nogales. San Carlos is a part of the City of Guaymas about a 15-minute drive away. Guaymas is a large thriving town built around an active fishing fleet. A great shopping area with local markets (especially fish), grocery stores and shops where most things can be found.

Leaving the Sonoran dessert and driving into town, you will be struck by the beauty of landscape in this "scenic corridor". You will pass the Dolphinarium, San Fransisco Bay and Honeymoon Island and then on through the pass adjacent to “Tetakawi” which opens up to fabulous vista of Algodones beach (Tetakawi" is a beautiful copper colored mountain and is the symbol of the town). The sea breeze, the waves, great beaches and the numerous activities in this authentic friendly environment will make you instantly at home and you will want to stay more than just a couple of days. Numerous restaurants specializing in local seafood, traditional Mexican fare and international food are available; the regional steak dish, “carne asada," is served with flour tortillas in many restaurants. |
For golf lovers, a Country Club is available with tennis courts and an 18-holes golf course. There are also two marinas: Marina San Carlos and Marina Real, both with complete services for boats. In the main area of town you will come across many handicraft shops and boutiques selling beach articles, furniture, pottery and souvenirs.
San Carlos is famous for its fishing. For sports fisherman this is one of the best places in the world. Marlin and Swordfish are abundant in the late spring, summer and early fall seasons and bottom fish like Yellow-tail in the winter. Boats are rent-able by the hour or day and the experienced captains will guide you to the some of the best spots in the world.
San Carlos is the also the ideal place to enjoy Scuba diving. The beach offers crystal clear blue waters with more than 800 species around its beaches, reefs and sea caves. This place is a paradise for divers who enjoy exploring the different world of the ocean. There are many places that rent boats and scuba gear, with professionals in each activity to provide lessons and the transportation to get to these incredible places. Other aquatic sports available in San Carlos include water skiing, kiting, sailing, kayaking and jet skiing and for land lubbers, horse back riding, hiking and ATVing. |

With an average temperature of 68°F in Winter and 95°F in the Summer, all year round is a good time to visit San Carlos.
Reaching San Carlos from any part of the US is easy. You can take Mexico Highway 5 , a four-lane modern road that intersects with the scenic corridor that runs into town or direct flights are available from Phoenix everyday. Guaymas airport is only 15 miles away from San Carlos, and and has rental car facilities and taxi's.
